The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water & YEP Agrofood, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the Water & Agrofood sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and the Food & Business Knowledge Platform.

YEP Role

Ivo van Haren was a consultant / project manager at WE-Consult. He was involved in several projects on (ground and surface) water and sanitation. This included for example baseline studies, project evaluations, GIS mapping and supplying sustainable water, implementing sustainable sanitation and the management of transboundary water resources.

Experience before YEP

Ivo van Haren graduated as a M.Sc. International Development in 2011 at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He focused on the international implementation of water and sanitation projects. His master thesis research for UN-Habitat Nepal concerned the feasibility of the Global Sanitation Fund program implemented in Rural Western Nepal. This included an extensive livelihood survey in several districts. In 2010 Ivo gained significant planning and management experience during his internship in Nigeria.
