The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water & YEP Agrofood, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the Water & Agrofood sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and the Food & Business Knowledge Platform.

Fenneke Brascamp

Where is she now? Programme Manager Sustainable Landscapes at Aidenvironment, Indonesia

Young Expert at Aidenvironment - Indonesia

YEP period 2015 - 2017, batch 5

YEP Role

I was a consultant at Aidenvironment, a not-for-profit consultancy organisation that tackles issues on sustainability, environment, and water, mainly in tropical countries. They advise NGOs, governments and private sector organisations in their sustainability issues.  In Indonesia I was working on a landscape project in West Kalimantan that focused on the integration of economic development, nature conservation, and social sustainability in the area where palm oil plantations highly affect the natural environment.

Click here for more information about my project.

During my studies I gained practical experience in the international environmental context through my MSc thesis and internship. I have a broad interest in topics and issues that relate to sustainable development on large and small scale. I would describe my personality as analytical and flexible with a practical and pragmatic view.

Nationality: Dutch
Education: MSc. Forest and nature conservation with specialization policy and society, BSc Management, Economics and Consumer studies. Both degrees were obtained at Wageningen University

Experience before YEP

I have been working at Aidenvironment as consultant since 2013 on projects related to environmental sustainability and water. I did my MSc thesis for Tropenbos International landscape governance in post coal mining areas in East Kalimantan and the role of private sector players in landscape restoration. I did my internship at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) on modeling the reduction of biodiversity loss through assessing national or regional policy options.
