Royal HaskoningDHV in Mozambique offers consultancy services such as Water, Resilience & Environment, Maritime & Aviation, Infrastructure & Buildings, Roads, Energy, Oil and Gas. We carry out projects from its inception to completion, providing the necessary professional operation and maintenance (O&M) training to support the developed activities in a sustainable way.

The Greater Maputo Water Supply Project (GMWSP) aims at developing a new water system by treating and delivering water to the Greater Maputo Region (GMR). It is of great importance to ensure the access, quality, availability, and sustainability of water in that region, which encompasses the two most populated cities of the country – Maputo and Matola, as well as Boane and Marracuene Districts.

This assignment however consists of the design of Phase II of the GMWSP. This phase will mainly seek to provide an additional 60,000 m3/d of potable water, as well as implementing and rehabilitating the necessary transmission and distribution network, towards providing water supply to 378,000 more people in the GMR. As such, the water coverage of the region, which initially reached 65% under Phase I will be increased to 73% under the proposed Phase II. Therefore, it is anticipated that these two phases will be an important steppingstone towards ensuring sustainable water supply access to the region.

My main role as Junior Civil Engineer at the Water Technology at the Royal HaskoningDHV Mozambique will be, the execution of the overall site layout of structures and access routes and pipelines, execution of earthworks, roadworks, stormwater and civil services layout detail design and drawings, also the execution of the water retaining structures and building detail design and drawings and associated founding conditions, as well as pipeline detailed design and drawings. Translation of reports and proposals from English to Portuguese and vice versa.

Use of hydraulic modelling for water supply and drainage systems EPANET, EPA-SWMM (water supply and drainage analyses), REVIP MEP (drawing and dimension of buildings network), CYPECAD MEP (dimension of buildings network), and for computer aided drawing AUTOCAD, AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D, ARCHICAD, QGIS (creation of maps), Google Earth (for creation of maps).

• Education: Degree in Civil Engineering and Transport – ISUTC (Institute of Transport and Communications).

Experience before YEP

Before YEP, I have worked for Royal HaskoningDHV Mozambique for 4 years as a Junior Hydraulic Engineer. Over these 4 years of experience, I was involved in several projects as designer, supervisor, and studies in the areas of Water Supply, Sewerage and Stormwater Drainage, Irrigation, Structures and Construction Projects, beyond elaborate Technical and Financial Proposals.
