The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

YEP Role

I was a consultant at the Dutch Water Authorities (DWA) Rijnland. And in that role I  worked at the Dutch-funded Blue Gold Program in Bangladesh. Together with an international team we tried to solve some local  water resources management subjects such as :

  • enhancing flood protection in polders by rehabilitation of the embankments and water intakes and outlets; improving the water distribution and drainage systems
  • fine-tuning and rehabilitation of the infrastructural works of selected polders
  • establishing an effective operational partnership between government agencies (e.g. BWDB, DAE, and others) and community groups
I was responsible for jointly developing ideas and proposals for innovative (technical) solutions in the field of river erosion protection, climate change mitigation, combatting drainage congestion (water logging) and design of water management structures (sluices, inlets, outlets, culverts) for the coastal polders in southwest Bangladesh.

In earlier work and  during my education I gained experience with organization and planning, monitoring and evaluation (PME) of multidisciplinary projects. I am good at keeping the overview and structuring projects towards their goal. I have a bachelor degree in Land & Watermanagement, and specialized in a combination of spatial planning and hydrology.

Nationality: Dutch
Education: BSc Land & Water Management at Van Hall Larenstein University of applied sciences

Experience before YEP

After graduating in 2013 I started a traineeship for the Dutch Water Authority’s (DWA). In these two years I worked for three different DWA’s on a broad spectrum of water related subjects. Such as embankment stability, Water quality, and spatial planning (with water quantities).
