The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

YEP Role

Aquaquest Ltd. - part of the WE Group - is a water supply consultans company active in East and Southern Africa. The company assists farmers, mining companies and housing projects without access to surface water by providing hydro-geological assessments and geophysical field surveys and by supervising borehole drilling and development.

As a Project Hydrogeologist I was mainly based out in the field. Here I gave technical advice and I represented the client. I was responsible for the management of the project and local staff. In addition I wrote reports and performed GIS-mapping.

Click here for more information about my project.

I have extensive experience in Hydrological, geological and physical-geographical mapping and the spatial interpretation and presentation of data. I am familiar with taking and analyzing soil and water samples and measuring runoff and meteorological parameters and I am used to work with various types of geophysical equipment.

In addition I have experience in various hydrological software programs and ArcGIS.

Nationality: Dutch
Education: I hold a Master degree in Hydrology with a specialization in Hydrogeology and a Bachelor degree in Earth sciences with a specialization in Physical Geography. Both degrees I obtained at the Vrije University of Amsterdam.

Experience before YEP

My master thesis research I conducted via Acacia Water BV a Hydrological consultancy located in Gouda. My research consisted of a hydrological system analysis for a catchment area suffering from water scarcity in the mountains of western Nepal. The area was mapped and the effects of land use and climate changes on water availability were modeled. Based on these findings recommendations were given on the implement of specific, so called 3R measurements, to improve the water availability.
