YEP

The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

Young Expert at Vitens Evides International - South Africa

YEP period 2015 - 2016, batch 5

YEP Role

During YEP I was the assistant project manager for the Centre of Expertise, Vitens Evides International (VEI), in South Africa. In our support to the local water sectors and stakeholders, we were striving to provide new and innovative technologies to improve the water treatment processes of the country.

Initially the primary focus was to begin to assist the project champions to increase the overall work rate of the project while making the transition into the water industry and learning how the industry works. Once this was complete I began to plan the monitoring and evaluation of my own projects as sufficient knowledge of the project life cycle was gained. The tertiary step was to have the pilot projects ready for the WISA 2016 conference.
