YEP Role

GIS/Modelling Young Expert: I am a GIS/Modelling Young Expert for the partnership between BLUE DEAL KENYA and WRA based at Tana catchment area, Embu. The project focuses on improving quantitative water management in the upstream areas of the Tana River. The major work is to draw up water management plans and water allocation plans. I am taking lead in the improvement of the GIS infrastructure and mapping, data management and analysis and use of hydrological models (SWAT & WEAP). I am also helping to identify together with my colleagues appropriate best practices to address the challenges that arise from the implementation of the project activities.

  • 2010-2014: Bachelor of Science in Earth Science with IT, Hydrology and Water Resources Management at Maseno University

Experience before YEP

2015-Present: Surface Water officer at Water Resources Authority. This is the position I still hold at the Authority since June 2015. My main responsibilities are: Management of the Water Resources Information system via MIKE IPO (Info, Planning & Operations), Hydro-met data processing and analysis, Installation, operation, and maintenance of the hydro-meteorological stations, Development and compilation of technical reports, Developing scopes of work, installation guides, and user manuals and Flood mapping using the HECRAS model.
Within the same period between January 2017 & April 2019, I was redesignated as a Water Resources Data Officer. My main role was to monitor and manage the Water Resources Database via MIKE BASIN platform.
