The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

YEP Role

As a Policy Advisor at the local government of Lampung Selatan I am focusing on strengthening the implementation of the Sanitasi Total Berbasis Masyarakat (STBM: Community-Led Total Sanitation) program of the Government of the District of Lampung Selatan on Sumatra. The goal of this program is to reach Total Access to Sanitation for all civilians of Lampung Selatan by the end of 2019.

I focus on multi-stakeholder engagement through cooperating with other departments involved with the implementation of the STBM program, which are, amongst others: The Health Department (Kesehatan), Public Works Department (Pekerja Umum)and the Community Empowerment Department (Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Desa).

I also work closely with the interdepartmental body (POKJA AMPL) which is responsible for coordinating all sanitation efforts of the district government of Lampung Selatan.

In light with the above, my work involves advising on different policies (e.g. communication and organisational policies) to enforcing technical knowledge (e.g. desludging, water treatment plants) and law enforcement.
