YEP Role

Ardjan works as Food Security and Livelihoods expert for the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) in the Philippines. NLRC is implementing the project Youth as Agents for Change, funded by 3FM serious request in Surigao del Norte, Mindanao, together with the Philippines Red Cross (PRC). Ardjan’s role is to support the last year of implementation of the food security and livelihoods components, which consist of establishing Sloping Agricultural Land Technologies (SALT) demonstration farms, vocational skills training for youth and the support of youth groups to set up micro-enterprises. His work is focused on technically advising the local Filipino Red Cross team on sustainable farming and participatory project implementation and to facilitate the planning, coordination and monitoring of food security an livelihoods activities between the local field team and the PRC HQ.

Skills

Ardjan likes providing technical advice and hands-on work and on sustainable agriculture, in combination with visionary approaches on making our food systems more sustainable and resilient. He is driven by his motivation to make this world a better place and is good at creating the bridge between high-level visions and practical project implementation. Ardjan has a natural sense for leadership, is good at presenting and likes intercultural and multilingual communication.

 

Background

Nationality: Dutch
Education: Ardjan graduated from Wageningen University with a MSc in Organic Agriculture. His thesis research was conducted in Brazil focused on comparing agroecological family farmers’ perceptions and management of ecosystem services with conventional family and large scale farmers. In addition he contributed to a research on agroecological transitions. He is lead author and co-author from two scientific articles published from his research activities in Brazil. Ardjan finished his BA at the University College of Maastricht (2012), focusing on development studies, sustainable development and economics. During his BA he also completed a minor on Corporate Social Responsibility as part of an exchange program in Buenos Aires.
