The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

Young Expert at Witteveen + Bos - Indonesia

YEP period 2013 - 2015, batch 1

YEP Role

I worked as process engineer at Witteveen+Bos on water management projects in Jakarta. I worked on (on-going) projects regarding water safety, floodings, reclamations, water resource management and hydrology. As a Civil Engineer I participated in water-energy related projects as well, like micro hydropower development.
Click here for more information about my project.

I try to really understand the physical hydrological processes and apply this knowledge on actual design projects. I use my creativity to find different solutions for water engineering challenges and come up with new and innovative approaches and results.  Other people describe me as enthusiastic, creative and independent.

Nationality: Dutch
Education: Master Civil Engineering, specialization Water Resource at Delft University of Technology, Bachelor Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology

Experience before YEP

In my first working year at Witteveen+Bos I was involved in different projects which allowed me to improve and apply my Civil Engineering knowledge like drinking water intakes, salt intrusion modeling and water system designs.

During my study I learnt organizational skills during some board memberships and commercial skills by founding and managing my own company with two friends.

For both my internship and master thesis I spent some months in Indonesia, learning about the culture and being an engineer in a totally different culture which was very interesting.
