The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water & YEP Agrofood, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the Water & Agrofood sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and the Food & Business Knowledge Platform.

Young Expert at ICCO Cooperation - Cambodia

YEP period 2017 - 2019, batch 13

YEP Role

As a Programme Officer at ICCO Cambodia, I will be working on a number of projects concerning sustainable agriculture and fisheries, responsible business and economic empowerment. My main tasks include program development, implementation and M&E. Moreover, I will conduct and organize trainings and workshops for various stakeholders, participate in national and international networks and write or assist proposals and business propositions. I will work closely together with my Cambodian YEP colleague Sinat Hin

Experience before YEP

  • Project Officer at MVO Nederland: research, project management and communication for various projects concerning CSR, responsible business practices and international supply chains
  • Course Assistant at Centre for Innovation, Leiden University: organization and coordination of bachelor courses on big data, responsible innovation and conflict/human rights
  • Intern at the World Food Programme of the UN: conducting due diligence research of prospective donors in the agri-food sector on their compliance with the UN Guiding Principles
  • International work and study experience in Costa Rica, South Africa, Namibia, Thailand, Italy and Germany
