The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water & YEP Agrofood, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the Water & Agrofood sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and the Food & Business Knowledge Platform.

YEP Role

As a Young Expert, I work with PCA-GIRE (Programme Conjoint d’Appui à la Gire) at the DNH (Direction Nationale de l’Hydraulique) and execute specific tasks related to groundwater and water quantity issues. Other tasks include: supporting the Water Resources Management department at the DNH, this includes working with the SIGMA (Système Informatique de Gestion des Ressources en Eau du Mali) team of the DNH, and in collaboration with the Akvo team that gives technical assistance to this team, as part of the national water point mapping programme to update and improve the SIGMA database.
