YEP

The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

Young Expert at We Consult - Zambia

YEP period 2016 - 2017, batch 9

YEP Role

I worked as a a Junior Hydrogeologist for Aquaquest Ltd. Aquaquest Ltd. - part of the WE Consult Group - is a water supply consultancy active in East and Southern Africa. The company assists farmers, mining companies and housing projects without access to surface water by providing hydro-geological assessments and geophysical field surveys and by supervising borehole drilling, development and testing.

The work I did mainly consisted of performing geophysical surveys, drilling supervising and testing pumping of boreholes. Part of the work involved processing the data in GIS and Excel and summarizing the results in a report.

At my work together with a Dutch Young Expert, who is also my supervisor.
