YEP

The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, YEP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

Where is he now? Civil/Hydraulic Engineer at Lilongwe Water Board, Malawi
History

Young Expert at Vitens Evides International - Malawi

YEP period 2016 - 2017, batch 8

Current Role

As a young professional, I worked on developing hydraulic models for Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) with technical assistance from VEI. I was also responsible for water network analysis and design. My mate, Ante Zoric was coaching me on how to use GIS along with hydraulic modelling applications. I transferred my technical skills to the newly recruited engineers at LWB. My other responsibility was sharing general issues on Malawian culture and how it impacts the organisational behaviour, security and tourism. With the introduced Young Water Professionals at LWB, I was geared to represent the YEP and share its goals. I was also one of the Young Water Professionals initiate its establishment at National level.
