The main goal of the Young Expert Programmes (YEP), consisting of YEP Water, EP Agrofood, YEP Energy and YEP Tailor-made, is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the water, agrofood and renewable energy sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The YEP Programmes are carried out jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), the Food & Business Knowledge Platform and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

Young Expert at Delphy - Myanmar

YEP period 2015 - 2016, batch 7

YEP Role

Young agricultural consultant at Delphy in Myanmar. There are a lot of opportunities for the agro-food sector in Myanmar. It was my task to document these opportunities but also the challenges in Myanmar into a Roadmap for the horticulture sector. I worked with a state agriculture institute to teach the students about horticulture technology and I also worked on a project to test different cheap greenhouse designs for small holder farmers.

What I am really passionate about is helping other people. The way I like to do this is by coming up an idea and than discussing the idea with people to see if my plan is reachable. Afterwards the idea can be tested and hopefully further expanded upon. I really like working with plants and teaching other people about plants and how they can grow them more effectively. I hope one day with my work to be able to help a lot of people. What i also really like is research the idea of creating new knowledge is very exciting for me.
